Driving through Northampton last weekend and came across a restaurant called Marmaris, went in to enquire and yes its Turkish.
Had a meal, very nice and plentyful, just as you would expect. Told the owner I would mention it on this forum.

Where in Northampton is it ?
-
Its on St.Giles Street, next to the Goose on Two Streets.
-
Near the Post Office ?
-
I think i'll give it a try tomorrow - Thanks for that information. Northampton could do with an alternative to the many indians. Was it reasonable? I went to the Moroccan opposite the Derngate last year as it was the nearest I could get to Turkey for my Birthday. I know different continent but in feel it was quite similar with a belly dancer etc etc. That was a good night but this I can't wait to try.

Did you go to the restaurant over the weekend Gorgeous bird? what did you think?
-
Nick didn't get off the train until late on friday and we were busy on saturday. So it will have to wait but I will post when I have been looking forward to it.
-
would this restaurant, be the turkish, indian, mexican, italian. ala calis beach we all come to love?
-
c1 as we are both in Northampton we could go together! We could have spring rolls for starters and fajitas to follow LOL
-
We went tonight and it was excellent - not an extensive menus but then only 4 tables. Nice men - I wowed them with a few Turkish words learnt from my Linguaphone PDQ CD's which arrived this week- usual Turkish hospitality, Baklava and Turkish Coffee on the house. No need for a starter as the portions are large especially with all the salad and bread. Highly recommended, I know this will become a regular haunt. just loved it - It was perfect, simple good food and good hospitality. 4*
-
Glad to hear you liked the restaurant, next time you go have a look upstairs, there are more tables and more private.
-
G Bird 4 * out of how many * may try, but much prefer Indian or Thai
-
4* out of 5*. We love curry but this made a great change.

Does anyone know if this restaurant is still in business? Missing the Turkish cuisine a bit and as Northampton is only a short drive from Milton Keynes, works out perfect for me and two of my friends to go to :)
-
I assume the name is Marmis and not Marmaris

Last time I was in town it was still open. It is the Marmaris and not Marmis.

There's an Istanbul Restaurant on the High Street, Wellingborough. Haven't been there for a number of years so not sure how good it is these days.
-
Ahh excellent, thank you GB. I feel a little trip to Northampton coming together now :D
Ooh and Wellingborough sounds good too. Possibly a trip there as well :)
-
don't get dressed up - restaurant is probably a bit of an over exageration, you can sit and eat in there but don't get dressed up!
-
Aha okay. I hardly get dressed up anyway. Would a Fez be too much then? ;) :D
-
The restaurant in Wellingborough closed some years ago unfortunately. :)
