You can get a light that has an ultra violet bulb, it makes the scorpions show up at night.  Available on the internet.  You have to be sure to get the right light though.  I haven't bought one but would like to because I am intrigued that I haven't seen one yet after 13-two week holidays and 11 months living here.  I am beginning to think the dogs, cats and ferrets are keeping them away. YAY!

I have found maybe around a dozen scorpions in my flat over the last 3 years. One under the bed and another under our couch. Caught a couple alive and I dumped them in my neighbours garden so as not to harm them.
Having said that their stings are about as painful as a wasp but have not got around to testing this theory.

I have an ultra-violet light and it shows the scorpions up as fluorescent lime green!

Every day I walk round the pool to see if we have any.  We have had toads and a mouse dead, plenty of centipedes. But no scorpions.  Maybe ours know how to swim!!

I read that scorpions don't like the ultra violet light, it winds them up.  Well that's worth knowing, LOL!!!

It's a fact that, with these beasties, the larger their main claws, the less dangerous their venom. If they have small claws, they possess a more toxic venom to compensate for having smaller claws. Loz and I have been very lucky so far, as after 4 and a bit years, we have never seen one.
A few lovely, multi coloured lizards though, much to loz;s disgust. (She suffers from Ophidiophobia). Anyone who was at Aura gardens opening night would know that!!
As some one else posted, just make a noise if walking through grassy areas, and don't let your kiddys turn over any stones!!
Live long and prosper.
