A word a day is a good way to make progress but Nichola is right  - you can't beat speaking the language - good luck.

Very Well done Ian, exactly my sentiments towards the turks.
If I wanted to live just with British people, speak only English and have an English Breakfast every morning then I would stay in England.[^]

Hi Ian, thanks for this site, its very helpful. Like you I like to get involved and try my hardest to speak turkish as and when I can, my local kebab shop find it highly amusing teaching me turkish as and when im in there, and my local paper shop teach me too! I also go to college one evening a week for 3 hours to learn how to speak turkish but also how to write it, I do find it hard but I do love it. A few years ago i came out to turkey on my own, I had lost someone very close to me, and wanted to get away from england so just came over to see my english and turkish friends for a couple of weeks, so I said to my turkish friends whenever its just me in your company please speak turkish, dont speak in  english, and do you know what after a few days i was really picking it up and understanding, that was the best lesson for me! So thank you again Ian. x
