Cooling system
« on: October 24, 2012, 19:35:50 PM »
I am getting the following System Warning message:

Warning: A problem has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service

Is this a "hoax" message.

Ermmmmmmm..........................Yes.

This is the mild version.

The other one is: Turn off your computer. Put it in the box in which it came. Take it back to the shop. Hand it over to them. Tell them that you now realise that you're too stupid to own a compter.

I have seen it on my Toshiba I think and a quick search does show it to be a Toshiba warning so not a hoax. Normally related to overheating (which Toshiba's often do).

Is it seriously hot? Normally underneath on left side or right side...

Can you hear the fan running or feel air coming out the side. If not then the fan may have packed up.

Also get a can of compressed air from a computer supply (or even a DIY store) and spray it in the air vents and around the keyboard etc. hopefully this will clear up any overheating problem.

Thanks Steve - I am on PC at the moment and will check later.

Is it safe to use though, as long as it does get too hot that is.

Seriously, also try putting a vaccum cleaner nozzle near the fan vent. You may be able to suck some dust out that's blocking the fan.

Good idea...always worth a try.

If you are getting these error messages then I wouldn't use it myself more than for say 10 mins at a time (and turn it off inbetween).
