A utopian dream for the future of Istanbul taxis
« on: January 12, 2016, 11:08:51 AM »
This article caught my eye this morning in the pro AKP Daily Sabah.

Istanbul taxis are in for a makeover.  In the not too distant future you can expect:
  • A central booking number
  • Free wifi in all taxis
  • Panic buttons for driver and passenger
  • Biometric identification system(!)
  • All taxis tracked by GPS
  • English speaking drivers at the airports
According to Yahya Uğur, the head honcho of the taxi drivers union, "it will take one or two years for the system to run effectively"

Aye, and the rest.  I can remember when they decided to ban the old Tofas and Sahin taxis from the airport - took them years instead of the initial six months forecast.

I for one wont be holding my breath on this one...
