UK Gov Turkey Alert
« on: August 16, 2016, 17:12:01 PM »
Yesterday I received a Gov.UK email on Turkey Travel Advice which said "15 August is an important anniversary for the PKK and increased PKK activity is possible around this date; there is likely to be extra security around government buildings and public institutions, particularly in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Adana, Mersin and in the south-east of Turkey; remain vigilant and take extra care around public buildings". Today I received another alert which said "removal of advice and information on possible increased PKK activity on 15 August". So the 16th is no longer around the 15th? Good job our FCO is on the ball, eh?

You can set up your preferences to indicate in which country/ies you are interested and how often you wish to receive alerts.

Better registering with the US consulate in Istanbul, their alerts tend to be more accurate and frequent.

You *may* need to be creative with some of your personal data...

It was my birthday the day of the coup and I was on Skype to Jav to and my kids when Tam said, 'Mum there's a newsflash just come up saying a military coup is happening right now in Turkey!'

I said I'd be okay because there's no way any tanks would be coming up this hill.
