Title: Favourite film and why?
Post by: mercury on November 03, 2018, 18:23:39 PM
We are going to watch Truly Madly Deeply tonight., We watched it a month after Barrie had spent 6 months in hospital and was lucky to survive.. We laid on the sofa with a handkerchief and ended with a bath towel because we cried so much through it... Obviously it was our circumstances at the time is why it meant so much.. We haven’t seen it since so it will be interesting to see if it has the same effect,
Has anyone else got a film that tore their heart out.?

Aaah yes, Love Story as a teenager (sobbed really loudly in the cinema and tried to disguise it by coughing - nearly choked!) and then Schindler's List more recently.  So moving.

Forest Gump is one of my all time favourite films, it's just put together so well  :)
Also, The Wizard of Oz, transports me back to Christmas's as a child/teenager when I watched it every year.....still do now and I'm 53!!!

It's a Wonderful Life with James Stewart.  Older than me but a true classic.  Makes me cry every time!

A matter of life and death with Peter Niven. Brilliantly made in black and white, and the scenes of limbo in colour. Gets me every time.

We eventually turned it off after half an hour... We are choosing to stay with the orginal emotions that we had.
It was obviously what we were going through at the time that caused the emotions..
sooo disappointing..

People think I'm trying to be funny when I say what my favourite film is :D

I am not a big film watcher and my favourite film of all time is Monsters Inc. - a stunning animation coupled with a great story  :)

Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" WW1 film about the injustices suffered by the everyday troops. Quite apposite given the anniversary we are fast approaching. Nothing short of a masterpiece and a brilliant performance by Kirk Douglas. You will never forget watching it.

All quiet on the Western Front, so sad because of the utter futility of war that it tries to portray.

A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sims as Ebenezer Scrooge.  I am so moved by the story of man's greed, selfishness and utter indifference to the suffering of others, which is then followed by the gradual conversion to love, compassion and care. It pulls at the heartstrings.

I've seen other versions of the film, but this one is my favourite and I look forward to it every year on television.

As Tiny Tim would say...."Merry Christmas Everyone."   :'(

Boy's Don't Cry!!! Wonderful portrayal by Hilary Swank about the rape and murder of transexual Brandon Teena.  It was heartbreaking and had me in tears.  Her portrayal of a female boxer in Million Dollar Baby was another that was very poignant.  She won Oscars for both, and deservedly so.

Cabaret.  A great story, great music and a glimpse of pre war Germany with a chilling hint at the nazi future of that country.
Looks like history may repeat itself.
