Is it true that the men in Uzumlu marched because the women in Uzumlu do not want to marry them? Apparently the women are moving away and working in towns rather than settling for a life on the farm.

Not our Uzumlu.. This is in Southern Turkey.. Our Uzumlu is in The South West.

I realize this comes from the Daily Mail and has therefore has probably been made up down the pub, but this is where DM thinks "Southern Turkey" is located. Uzumlu; a few miles from Fethiye. Have they got the wrong Uzumlu?

According to, what appears to be, the original story in LiveLeak, the village is Uzumlu in Erzincan Province in Northeast Turkey. There's no mention of it being a "southern" village. The Daily Fail have obviously assumed that it's Uzumlu near Fethiye.

One bit of detail that appears in many of the reports is that the population of the mysterious Uzumlu has fallen from 400 to 233. Uzumlu in Erzincan has a population of 13,500+. My bet is on Uzumlu in Erdemli which had a population of 254 in 2012 and, being in Mersin province, is actually in "Southern Turkey".
