Christmas Lights..............
« on: December 05, 2013, 14:15:16 PM »
I was driving home yesterday evening and as I passed countless houses, bearing in mind this is early December what I could described as mini versions of Blackpool illuminations.

Having heard lots about the cost of energy and the possible shortage of electricity in the not to distant future why have so many people become obsessed with having this level of Christmas lighting.

Without being the humbug that I am maybe a little illumination nearer the day.......ok but the level that I have observed it quite frankly excessive and will worsen in the days to come.

Most of this lighting is run through a transformer which is not the most energy efficient just feel the lovely warm feel as they waste energy!!!

Just another example of this time of year becoming a totally commercial and excessive joke.

Off to bury head in the soil with our tortoise  :( :(

Yes,but you can't save electricity can you? Once it's produced, it's got to be used unless you have huge battery storage facilities. Just think of all those idiots with the lights on as lining the pockets of the electricity producers pockets before you have to.

You cannot save electricity in conventional terms but you can use less, which would mean not having to increase the output from the various sources that produce it. Turn off the wind turbines in the Thames Estuary for few hours rest!!

I can't say I'm a fan of too many.  Less is very much more for me

We have put up some outside lights for the 1st time ever, just last evening, partly because now we have a bungalow, rather than living in a 1st floor flat, it is much easier to do so, but mostly because my Darling Lorraine just absolutely LOVES Christmas, and all the joys thereof, and it's OUR money, and we can afford to do so, so BOLLOX to anything else !!  ;)

By the way, another Christmas tree is going up in our front garden, ( yes, we have 2 gardens now) tomorrow, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah !!
We do have "Inlaid Voltaic Panels" on the roof, mind.   ;)  ;)

I always plug ours into the Streetlight outside, that's alright isn't it?? I'm only lighting the street in a different way and after all I paid for the lights!  :)
