Title: No 1 Beach in Europe
Post by: lucie on March 10, 2012, 01:07:55 AM
Trip Advisor--Traveller Choice 2012--Europe----Olu Deniz is No 1 with Icmeler No2.

Of 25 Best Beaches in the World --OluDeniz is at No 14 !
Lots of great photos of Olu area too.
Personally,I don't find most of the other beaches on the list at all attractive.

An interesting list. I think Tripadvisor must get overrun with Americans as can be seen by the top 25 having 7 American and 4 Mexican in the top 25. Hardly a mention of far eastern beaches and none from Australia or New Zealand.

No Calis! After digging up the concrete and turning over the sand to send the ciggy butts underground you'd have thought it would get a mention.

I had to laugh at Icmeler. I remember many many years ago watching them "making" this beach with imported sand from the Sahara. There was no beach there.

Odd that Patara not mentioned. Ive been to Punta Cana and prefer Patara. Good to also see St Pete's beach up there as this is a fantastic beach. Well done Olu Deniz.

Yes it is incredible to see it at all, let alone in second place - for the whole of Europe!!! I doubt it would make the top 10 for the best beach in Mugla, let alone Europe. Nice to see Olu Deniz though. It is easy to take it for granted and it truly is a phenomenal piece of nature.

I personally prefer Iztuzu Beach of Dalyan to Oludeniz Beach. Not only the natural looking beach , but also the pleasant boat trip , the Lykian tombs on the way , salt water and non-salt water at the same spot make an enjoyable daily trip.

Yes me too - Iztuzu beach is wonderful - but Olu Deniz is more remarkable  :)

Just wish the lagoon part was still like it was when we first visited,as the result of a single picture in a holiday brochure,ie uncrowded, with a few friendly people including Aussie backpackers, tents, caravans,a few scruffy sunbeds free of charge and not as now--packed with sunbeds posh caravans and charges and "sanitized". Progress???

Strangely - we first visited Oludeniz when we were students in the early 80's. Caught a dolmus from Marmaris, stopped off in a small town called Fethiye to see the tombs and then on to Oludeiz where there was one hotel (I think?) and a camp site. However, the spit at the lagoon was really busy - as bad as now - as there were lots of coach tours there.
