Title: Petanque
Post by: Old Daffodil on August 03, 2010, 07:03:56 AM
Since living in France I have seen  quite a lot of Petanque matches. It is very popular and easy to play even in a hot climate. All you need to play the game is a piece of land which is firm and a petanque set.It would be a good game to play in Turkey instead of bowls as you do not need a grassy surface. It can be played by people of all ages too and is a lot of fun.

All the Turkish we know love the game - we have a mini petanque set which we took out to Turkey, we take it to the beach with us- whenever we go our friends always ask us to take it. It always draws a crowd .

Here's a link to a recent article in the Mail about the game

That looks a lovely place to play KKOB. I have seen it played here in France in many parks on just a pathway or convenient spot, not too far from a shady tree. It you drive through the villages on a Sunday you can hear the noise of petanque being played.

You can play this anywhere - on the beach, on grass. I sometimes teased the kids by lobbing the jack well out of their range - there was always hell to pay.
