I had a bike that I went to school on every day. The school was about 5 miles away.  i used to go to friends houses after school, but I hated the Winter because my Mum would not allow me to have lights on my bike so I always had to be home before it went dark...

Incidentally, there are collectors for the old Carbide lamps they make anything from £20-
£40 at auction, depending on condition.

We had loads of bikes at one time or another as my dad used to pass by a local tip on his way home from work and would re-home anything bike related from lamps, wheels and bits of frames, and sometimes whole broken bikes.
They got all fixed up and were then given to any of our friends or local kids who didn't have a bike they could ride at the time. they were all passed around, repainted, grown out of and passed down to brothers or sisters....... real re-cycling
