Finding the best consultant / surgeon
« on: November 10, 2014, 19:58:08 PM »
Does anyone know how to get a rating (if one exists) of a consultant or surgeon in the UK.
I found a website that claims to be the 'Trip adviser' of doctors but could not find the surgeon listed I wanted to.

If you have private medicine, you can ring the company your are with and ask them.

I imagine it's not in anyone's interest to give any sort of ranking - all you can do is see if there are blogs where your ailment/consultant is mentioned.  a lot of research will give you a consultant's particular interest/specialities e.g. if in orthopaedics whether it's knees OR hips etc.  what you should steer clear of here is too much "generalisation".  It would be unethical for any insurer to recommend - all they can do is give you a list and tell you the comparative costs, as some charge more than others and can be outside the insurer's scale.  good luck!   BTW if you are anywhere near Oxford and it's a knee problem then I know just the man!!! Also, you if you found a list somewhere, you would have to check that they surgeon you favoured was on the books of your private medical company.
If you ring your P.M.C. they will advise you, they did this for us when Phil had his operation and told us about a few surgeons on their list.   They were right with the recommendation they gave us, they explained to us who was the man with the specialist knowledge in the operation Phil needed, so they do help. The Surgeon was the best.  Once you get a name you can look them up on the net and see their qualifications etc.,

Thanks again. I am hoping we don't need it but Mrs B had a CT scan today. Nothing life threatening.
