Restaurant price ranges?
« on: March 03, 2015, 15:58:46 PM »
This year for the first time ever I have had several inquiries about our price range.

The presets on FB are £, ££, £££, ££££ and probably on TA £'s or $

What I don't really understand and maybe I am asking the wrong question of Google because I can't find the answer there is how to calculate which of the £'s I should put for our restaurant.

I suppose there must be a formula for example 2 people, two courses but surely it depends on what people eat and here as we price in TL not £'s there is the exchange rate to take into account so the price range could vary quite considerably if the rate changed a lot.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

A lot will depend on who is asking.

Potential customers that haven't been before I am guessing! Facebook has this option to show price range and I have three different inquiries over the last couple of months which I have ignored up until now...

To be frank, I usually find these ££ or €€€ indicators pretty useless.  I could wander into your place and have a wrap and a beer for pennies - alternatively I could have a starter, a main and a bottle of wine and it'd be five times the cost of the wrap and beer.  The same principle applies to any restaurant that has a wide ranging menu.

If they are enquiries from Facebook then personally I'd reply with a brief message "we have many dishes from £x through to £xx, with main courses starting from from £x".  And in a quick note about the exchange rate and that should cover it, adds the personal touch as well and gives you something to do once you've finished a nice 16hr day.  An alternative is to put a copy of the menu (with prices) online.

If I was pushed, I'd go for £ or ££ for MB.

Thanks John, these would be my sort of concerns too and it could put people off. It's not hard to fill up relatively cheaply at ours.

hahaha  ;D

I have taken your advice and written to all those that accept messages on Facebook from people they don't know and also put the information as a public post on our Facebook page. Thanks   :)

Glad to be of service madam  :)

Just don't get so busy I cant get a table for eight, with half a dozen off menu requests, at five minutes notice, on a Saturday night... in July!

Good luck for the season.
