We like Ambar pide too, and you can order and go and pick up a take away.  They have a big oven fed by wood.  If you want to you can sit in they do lots of other food.  They also have accommodation and a bowling green.

Gar lokanta opposite Carrefour by the bus station in Fethiye is one more for you to have to try, also the lokantas around the Devlet hospital in Calis all do really good pride and are very cheap.

The best pide place for freshness, taste, quality, size, location, and a small family run shop is opposite Genpa on the main Günlükbaşı road just along from the police station.Small place with just 8 tables large oven and a fridge. The mixed ones are to die for and great value. No frills just great Pide.

Ozen Pide, is not in Calis it's in Ciftlik, quite a long way from Calis Prom, you would need to take the Dolmus or get a taxi.

There is a new pide shop opened up in Gunlukbasi, opposite side from the school and about 500mtrs heading into Fethiye, we tried it about 2 weeks ago, 2 x veg pide and salad to take away, 10tl, one of the best pide i have tasted, not a lot of english spoken but have photo menu, well worth a visit if you live around that area.

Tried the Ak Deniz Pide place for the first time the other night and it was very good.Asked them for a small plate of mixed mezzes for a starter (even though it was'nt on the menu) and it came served with a large hot puffa bread. Also nice that they use fresh chilli on their pides and not the dried chilli flakes that other places seem to use.

Sorry if I've done the wrong thing dragging this topic up again,  but can anyone confirm if Ozen Pide in Ciftlik is still as good and still open? Planning to mosey on up later as I need to get my pide fix.

Its still just as good, cant get a beer there now becuase they are oppsite the mosque.  He doesnt mind if you buy a beer from Melissa next door and drink it there lol.

Have you tried Zayra opp Cafe Pazzar, fantastic pide, had one their Monday night.

Oh well, there goes the secular republic....

That's great info though.  Thanks.  Will try the Zayra and save Ozen for if I manage to do a day off the pop next week.

Kokorec

Tastes wonderful BUT that awful texture.

Intestines (hopefully perfectly cleaned out) with sweetbreads (thymus gland) - I'd rather have a leg of lamb please.....

I get brave after a couple of beers and give then yet another try - part way through I give up chewing.

Am I getting badly prepared kokorec  or is that normal?

You're getting cr4p kokorec. It's not often that you get them with sweetbreads around Fethiye. They're usually just pure intestines with added spices and salad.

I must admit that the best one's have been from roadside kiosks around Konya and Sivas and also made by an old shepherd neighbour of ours in Kaya.

The best pide's in Calis are at Amethist on the Dolphin roundabout, my favourites, chicken, mushroom and cheese or sausage cheese and egg and real chips. Now anyone who knows me, will tell you I know a thing or two about Pide.

Actually ended up going to Ozen. Very good.  3 pides,  one pizza, 4 cans of soda and a bit of salad 55 lira/12 quid. We spent another 50 Lira on taxis from Koca Calis,  though. It's opposite a barber rather than a mosque (the mosque looked to be a quarter mile away)  and beer was on the menu,  although we had resolved to give our poor livers a rest anyway.

I've been to Ametist 4 or 5 times over the past few years and think they are good,  although I do think Ozen trumps them. It's not for those who enjoy let's say sophisticated decor/surroundings,  however. Good job Mrs Villain didn't spot about 200 ants having a party in the see-through sugarcube bowl on the next table,  too. There would have been a riot.
