Title: Shoe repairs
Post by: bunny4jeff on December 07, 2011, 12:01:35 PM
For shoe repairs, try the man on the Catalarik Road in Gunlukbasi. I wanted the soles of some fake suede boots re-fixed to the uppers, assumed he would glue them as thats how they were made. Instead, he stitched the soles to the uppers, they look great and a marvellous job, much better than glue. I also had new sole and heels put on another pair of boots, he made a great job of those too. The cost? 25 liras for both pairs and a job well done.He has stitched leather uppers to a pair of hubby's shoes, a couple of years ago and they're still very good.

Good to know a real top tip.  I hate new shoes as they always blister my feet and cause pain.  Which is why I always look to have my soles replaced, rather than buy new, as the old shoes are so comfortable.  So these guys look like they could get a lot of work from me in the future. :)

There are quite a few in Fethiye and they are all good and all cheap. Turkish people even have their trainers repaired. Before we came to live here I would just chuck our shoes in the bin. Now we always have them repaired if possible.

I had my favourite boots, 4 years old now, and were falling to bits, mended at the cobblers in the new pedestrianised side street down from Genc Optik.
The uppers were coming away and they needed new heels, he resoled them, put new heels and attached the uppers, painted and polished them, they came back like new, all for 7 tl, even my turk partner expected that they would cost much more!

The downside of all this is that I cant justify buying new shoes and boots anymore
