I'm thinking of moving to HSBC - can someone tell me if there is a charge for withdrawing sterling abroad from an HSBC ATM or would they just debit the amount in pounds? Ta!
-
According to Martin Lewis there is a 2.99% charge to a maximum of £3.00.

I saw that, but that is for non-sterling.

I drew sterling from my hsbc account last year and they charged me. They charge for everything!!! Can't remember exact amount but it wasn't pennies!
-
Thanks Pauline - I just wondered, I am a Halifax Clarity Card user so I would probably use that anyway. I do wonder how they justify charging HSBC customers for withdrawing sterling from HSBC ATMs though...

I Have drawn pounds sterling with my Barclays debit card form HSBC ATM's in Turkey and there has never been any additional charges. I have been doing it for the last 12 years.

Ignore previous post please, I did try and delete it but it was beyond me. I did not read the original post properly. Another senior moment.

No problem Don, thanks for replying anyway :)

It depends who your bank is in the UK, they are the ones that charge. If I draw sterling from HSBC atm my bank in the UK charge me 2%, and I bank with Co-op or Smile. You need to ask the HSBC in the UK if they would charge you for withdrawing
-
We have been drawing sterling from our HSBC accounts in the UK, at the HSBC ATM here in Turkey for 9 years now and it has never cost us a penny.
-
That'll do for me Baz, cheers :D

We have a Halifax Clarity Card and also a Nationwide Plus Account. The Nationwide Account makes no charges to draw Sterling.
-
I withdraw fairly regularly from my UK HSBC account using HSBC cashpoints here (in Fethiye and Hisaronu) and am always charged between £2 and £4, depending on how much I am withdrawing.
Still, it's not as much as the charge on one occasion recently when I had to withdraw cash using my HSBC business account card because I'd not got round to transferring money to the personal account....how they can justify an extra few quid when it's the same bloody process is beyond me. >:(
-
I used my new Halifax Clarity last week for the first time here! Yay! It worked and I feel quite proud. Another first! M who did all that stuff (which I took for granted) chose that card from Martin Lewis' recommendation. 8)

No charge for ANY foreign ATM withdrawals from a Norwich and Peterborough account provided that you have £500 a month going in or £5000 balance.
-

Karen, it's not the machine that charges you, it the Bank, so you will be fine. We have used a variety of machines to draw money from our Nationwide Account, never had a charge to draw Sterling at any of them.
-
I get charged £5 a go with First Direct drawing sterling at hsbc machine.
Once drew it in tl and cost me £14 !!!
