I think they mean you share 12th of the total land.  The apartment size itself may not be on your deed.

Dear all,

A neighbour told me that DASK insurance is now compulsory (?) I bought our apart in July 2009-SOKAK 840 and am certain that our  T solicitor told us that if Fethiye goes under (god forbid) that is that and all of Fethiye would be flat! Or words to that extent. Do not want to cause controversey here or ill feeling but she was most honest. Can someone advise is this DASK insurance now compulsory and should I now be finding a policy PDQ! (?)

Yes DASK is compulsory - but wouldn't get excited about rushing to buy one - I think its the one thing there is not a fine for paying late.

Sam this is (worst case scenario) precisely why you need the earthquake insurance, to protect your investment/home.  Apart from the fact that it is compulsory, the cost is relativly low and when you compare the cost to the protection offered it is good value.

Also, and I am not completly certain here, you could invalidate/reduce any claim payment on your house contents/buildings insurence if you do not have DASK, as some of the rebuild costs from earthquakes are paid by the buildings insurance.

DASK has always been "compulsory", even for illegally built properties. ;)

Busybee, I had the same problem.  My house is in Uzumlu but I had to put yesiluzumlu in, then it worked. :)
Great site, many thanks

What happens if you live in an apartment and some people pay and some don't?

I asked that same question when I renewed the apartment DASK, the bank manager I was dealing with did say that many Turkish people do not insure their property, but did not know what the outcome would be as it has never happened yet.
