When I used to work in Turkey, we were paid cash.
The first 500 lira not was brought out and we managed to eat and drink for a week befor we had to pay. Nobody had enough change to break the 500 lira.
Times have changed Hu !

Sorry if that sounded thick but I only knew they had changed it and not how they changed it :-\

So basically if we get any when we are there, just knock the zero's off[?]

Another daft question then, do you have to accept the old money if someone tries to palm it off on you in a shop/restaurant, or do you just politely tell them to change it for new currency[?]

I can imagine a lot of people getting 'ripped off' with the old money if they're not clued up by some of the less honest people.  No offence intended to anyone.

The old million notes have not been around for some years so you should not have a problem there. However the current Yeni Turkish Lira will not be legal tender after the end of this year(you will only use the Turkish Lira which is in use now alongside the Yeni TL) You may then have to be alert and refuse any old money

I found some old 50 YTL notes yesterday. Will I still be able to pay them in to my Garenti Account?
