You do not need an address in Turkey to open a bank account.

Last year our friends provided a utility bill as proof of UK address and took that along with passports and tax numbers to the bank to open an account. They were simultaneously given an on line account

If you do take a utility bill from UK for proof of identity make sure it is less than three months old; guess what, ours was just over and they (HSBC) wouldn't accept it. You live and learn.

I,m with Zirat as they guarantee the full amount you have in your account, not just 50,000 and they are paying 8.65 on 35 day account, would rather get a little less interest and full peace of mind.

Hi  :)

All banks in Turkey only can guarantee 50.000 TL per person.(100.000 TL for joint acc.) the only difference of the banks is owners  :) As you can follow from news Fortis bank is owned by BNP Paribas which is the biggest european bank.

In case of any help please do not hesitate to contact even if you are not my customer

Alper
