We have a bog standard flex account- which we set up purely for use when we are abroad - so we put plenty in before our hols and use it almost daily to withdraw spends or to pay for apartment expenses. We have received a letter to say that from June10 to september 10 they are sending out new cards. The new cards will replace all existing flex account cards and the 'big plus' is they can be used to pay for goods in shops etc. However for us the big minus is we can NO LONGER use them to withdraw cash from any foreign cash machines! Suggestions as to an alternative would be appreciated as I have no loyalty to the Nationwide and will change like a shot if I can find a card that I can use in the same way as I could my flex!

What can I do with a Visa debit card?
Our FlexAccount with a Visa debit card offers customers our widest range of features and benefits - you can use your Visa debit card to:

pay for goods and services in shops in the UK and abroad†
securely pay for goods and services online
pay for goods and services over the phone
ask for cashback in certain UK stores
withdraw cash from cash machines in the UK and abroad

This what the site says the new Flexaccount card can be used for

As you see it includes CASH WITHDRAWLS ABROAD

sorry about that pressed the wrong button,if you read the nationwide website, and Read the ref cc01,it quite clearly states that flexaccount/cashcard holders(which it also states will become fron 9/10 cash card +)who do not upgrade to a flexiaccount visa debit account, will not be able to withdraw from outside the uk,seems pretty simple to me,i do not want a visa  debit card,so i will have to make other arrangements

We are with HSBC and are very happy with them.  We used to be with Fortis, but, unfortunately they failed to put our interest in our current account when they should have.  This happened more than once and left us having to chase them up, which wasn't satisfactory. We have had no such problems with HSBC and their internet banking site is good also.

Why not? It is a simple process to apply, and you can carry on using it as you did your cashcard. This is still just about the only way to draw cash abroad without any charges. Same service, different card.

I was told that the blue Nationwide Via Debit Card with the Flex Account will now charge 1% for withdrawals from an ATM in Turkey. There is a 0% charge for countries in the Eurozone.

The Nationwide Visa Debit Card does not apply charges for withdrawals in Turkey. A charge is levied for withdrawals in some countries, the EU and Turkey are not subject to a charge.
