Money Change, where
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:35:18 AM »
I normally change my money into TL in England but I've been told that I will get more for my pound by exchanging it in Turkey. Is this true.
At the moment it is 2.2643.

Thanks

yes Tankie you will always get a better rate in Turkey.  Atms are plenty and will give the option of Euro / Lire and some GBP.  What ever you do DONT exchange money with the guy in fethiye who stands outside his clothes shop who is a complete con man (if I could find the thread I would link it, but I'm not that clever....:().

On the 3 occasions I've been to Calis, we always got more in the resort rather than the UK. Lots of places Jewellers, bag shops clothes shops, restaurants all change money.

In the last 9 years I have changed my money at the Onur jewellery shop in Calis. Gurbuz is totally honest and well known to lots of people who will vouch for him. He and his girlfriend even stayed with my family in UK this winter. He is a good friend and extremely helpful. His shop won the best decorated business during carnival week.

Get your money ( sterling) out of the bank atm,ie the one outside the bank, not a remote one.Take it inside with your passport and exchange it.Thats the best deal.unfortunately most atms,do not dispense sterling. In calis its hsbc near the water taxi bridge,or hsbc in fethiye, both at the bank and in front of the PTT (post office)If you are coming into town from gunlukbasi, use the TEB branch just down from Carrefore exspress. But the main TEB atm in fethiye does not carry sterling.hope this helps.

Dont change at the main exchange shop in Hisaronu without asking for a receipt or you'll also be short-changed.
