My other half takes her broken bits and pieces and odd ear rings out, seems to get a good price for stuff that would have once been binned, she sees Sedat at Zumrut Jewllers in Calis.

Yes it pays to shop around though I sold a watch I bought in Turkey some years ago. One shop offered me £700 but the jewllers shop near the change office in Fethiye gave me £850.00

I know quite a few people who have bought gold jewelry in Turkey who all say that when they had it valued in the UK the value much higher than in Turkey. How can this be so AND the secondhand value higher in Turkey than the UK? Perhaps the UK value quoted was higher for insurance purposes?

if its purely a valuation then you are correct, its for insurance purposes.

The gold price is pretty stable around the world and as it's really high at the moment I cannot see Turkey giving any more than any other country.  There are some good online companies to sell with.  This is one
http://www.scrapgolduk.co.uk/  Get an immediate online quote when you weigh your gold.  Then if you want to take it to Turkey you can see if you are getting more.
Also, the valuations people get in the U.K. for Jewellery bought abroad are the Insurance valuations as Jim says. It is usually 2-3 times the actual value.  To get a real valuation on an item take it to an Auction Room and ask them what it would make at Auction.  Alternatively, take it to a Jeweller and ask him what he will give you for it there and then.
