This is Oludeniz 30 years ago.

Finally got round to digitizing some slides taken during our summer trips to Fethiye and other areas of Turkey.

Then the beach was usually uncrowded as can be seen and well worth the taxi fare each morning from Fethiye.

Its funny but we first visited when students in 1986. We were staying in Marmaris and took a dolmus to Olu Deniz. We stopped at a small town called Fethiye on the way to see the ruins. When we got to Olu all I can remember is one hotel and a camp site. More interesting, however, was that the beach was absolutely packed with coach trips and I have never seen it as packed since. Been going back ever since.

I remember sitting on that very spot many, many years ago, and there was nothing in Olu way back then,Just nature all around,no sunbeds no fee to get onto the lagoon.It was paradise.Enjoyed the picture.

Loved it too. We stayed in the first hotel with a campsite out the back and a dormitory place around the corner. Large beer was 35p

My late brother in law went in the very early 80's and I remember him tallking about how unspoilt and authentic it was. To think I was put off going by the 'toilet paper' situation! It was to be another 8 years before we ventured forth.
