We get really fed up with all the dogs in the houses around us barking all night long.  Once one starts all the others join in, i swear there must be 15-20 dogs joining in the chorus.  Both our neighbours have 2 dogs each and then a really large dog to the rear of our property, it drives us mad. When we have the doors open on a warm evening we have to close them to hear ourselves think ! We dont own a dog and we dont want to hear other peoples dogs sometimes. No-one ever takes them inside or tries to shut them up.

What I don't understand is why these dogs don't drive their owners mad too? Surely they can't sleep, the dogs are nearer to them!!

Dogs barking - Cockerels crowing - Mosques calling to prayer.
All part of living in paradise - Looking forward to it soooooo much (STOP MOANING !!!)
Although we will miss the overnight helicopters and munitions of Salisbury Plain !!!!!

Maybe you think people should stop moaning because you are on holiday and a dog barking isn't a big thing Kevin. But if you live there and have a business to run, or it is every single night of your life, it gets a bit irritating after a month or six I can tell you.

I'm struggling to think of a bigger contradiction in terms.

I suspect it is the "living near a railway line" syndrome - but there again if you ignore the trains after a while you will ignore the dogs which sort of defeats their objective.

It is also a macho thing - my dog is bigger than yours - but with little love shown towards the pet that is the most annoying. We had near to us a very large Alsatian type dog in a cage all day long - almost foaming at the mouth to get out and it was supposedly owned by an ex-military man who clearly wanted the biggest on the street - it is a great shame for the animals in too many cases.

But you simply are not going to change it !!!
You either live with it or move elsewhere  :-\
Waking early to the Mosque, dogs and cockerels
is one of the delights of being in Turkey for us,
I'll let you know if it has changed 6 months in but
I bet it won't have (unless I get old and grouchy   ;) )
