Airbag warning light reset - Suzuki
« on: September 28, 2015, 10:10:57 AM »
The airbag warning light has come on and is staying on in our Suzuki Swift. We need to get it reset, we tried the Citroen Garage, where we have it serviced but their diagnostic machine plug won't fit our car. Does anyone know where we could get this done in Fethiye, any places who specialise in this type of service for various vehicles?

Citroen told us we'd have to take it back to Denizli - a non starter, there is a listed Suzuki service centre in Mugla, but if poss we'd like to get it sorted locally.

If the warning light has come on, then it's come on for a reason.  Simply resetting it without identifying why it's come on is akin to just disabling the airbag.  Given that there were almost 120 folks killed last week in car crashes in Turkey, anything (like an airbag) that gives you an edge is not to be sniffed at.

As is so common nowadays, the only folks who can check the cause are a dealer for the make of vehicle so even if it's a bit of a hike, a Suzuki service centre is probably the only ones who can check it.

You could always email Suzuki TR and find out your nearest service centre: http://otomobil.suzuki.com.tr/iletisim.aspx

Yes, John F, it obviously needs fixing but before it can be "fixed" if indeed there is a problem apart from a loose connection somewhere, it needs the diagnostic bit doing to ascertain where/what the fault is, and that's where we're having problems. We may have to go to Mugla, the nearest place listed in the handbook, and where we took it for it's first service,  but if it can be done locally that would be great. We know there are people who specialise in this kind of service in the UK.

I agree with JohnF about the dangers of just getting the light reset but before you do anything else check that nothing has become lodged in the seatbelt buckles. This is a common cause of airbag warning lights activating. The most common causes are a small coin or even a fragment of silver paper from a sweet.

Also, have alook under the seats to check if a wire has been disconnected or become loose.

If you Google "how to reset airbag light on suzuki swift" there are a number of sites where you can get the instructions for a DIY fix and a whole range if common, simply fixed faults.

Just remember though, that the airbag system is in effect an explosive devise and you shouldn't go poking around the deployment system.

Have a look on the Saniye for one of the vehicle repair shops that has Araç Teşhis on their sign. If I remember correctly that means Vehicle Diagnostics. They should be able to plug their Tech 2 equipment into your car's computer.

One thing to be wary of when heading for a "small independent" diagnostic check - if they fix it, be sure that the light comes on when you first turn on the key.  One of the most common "fixes" is to simply disable the bulb...

Incidentally, one of the most common failures on airbag systems is wiring - either internally below the seats, or externally where the sensors are often located.

Look for the wire and the connector underneath the drivers seat. Make sure the connector is firmly pushed together. Then try starting engine again. I think the Suzukis self diagnose every 20 seconds or so but give it a few hours and hopefully light will go off

Ahhh...  if only it was that easy  :)  Try accessing the full list of fault codes on a Ford.

If we were discussing Fords instead of a Suzie Rattletrap Suzuki Swift, I wouldn't bother recommending a Tech 2.  Especially as there's a very good Ford dealership in Fethiye.   :)
