Title: Faux Bacon
Post by: arlene carol on February 14, 2009, 17:36:10 PM
Hi everyone,
I have heard that you may have bacon in your shops, how lucky you are!
I don't have it here but I've recently discovered a way to make the perfect Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich ON A "TINGLISH MUFFIN"...

We do have a Kipa Supermarket (I live in Canakkale province) and last week I purchased very lean pastirma and had it sliced very thin. Came home, put three slices on paper towels and popped them in the microwave on high for just over a minute. The results were so much like real bacon (I think I still remember that it tastes like after almost 20 years without) that my BLT was a 'taste of the good old days'..

I have a friend that makes me exact copies of Thomas' English muffins
which is an American product, I believe. But I still miss a good corned beef on rye and don't think I can duplicate that here!

Try the pastirma dried in the microwave when you need crumbly bacon for your recipes or salad toppings.

good luck,
arlene
