Folk in Turkey are miffed by the prospect of no beer in the bar on Sunday. But the UK faces an absence of beers in pubs into the indefinite future. This is due to a shortage of CO2 which has led to breweries and cider factories halting production of several lines. Visiting my local today, which normally has five beers and five ciders as well as lager and Guinness, I learned that next week there will be one ale straight from the barrel and one cider from a polythene container. On a larger scale Wetherspoons has warned it could soon run out of beer. So pubs, large and small, are going to run dry. Fizzy soft drinks are also affected - so it is not all bad.
This, of course, is a catastrophe but CCO2 is also used in hospitals and in plastic wrapping foodstuffs and, no doubt, countless other applications which is also a worry. I had known this for some time but, like other drinkers today, I didn't realize it was so imminent.

No CO2. Does that mean the myth of global warming will be stopped?

You'll just have to get used to being a bitter man.
