The Price of Premier League Football and a Meat & Potato Pie
« on: November 03, 2013, 08:35:35 AM »
Took my youngest son (32) to watch Man City v Norwich yesterday (Norwich were as bad as City were good).

Anyway - out shopping in the morning - we have this wonderful little fine dining retail bakery up Norf called The Pound Bakery from which I regularly make a purchase :-)

So I decide to buy 2 Meat & Potato pies - as we always used to get a bovril and a pie each when we watched Oldham Athletic for many years as my 2 lads were youngsters - the price - 2 for £1.
I took them home and just before I left for the ground I blasted them for 2 minutes in the microwave - placed them back in their foil containers and in a plastic bag and off I went.

Met James outside the entrance - went in "fancy a bovril and a pie" he said - "just get 2 bovrils I've got the pies and took out my plastic bag".

When he returned I said - "how much would the pies have been?"
"£3.80p" he replied - "for 2" - "no EACH"

£7.80p for 2 meat and potato pies !!!! - madness - no longer a sport for the working man!

Ps our pies were the same size and design and were just the right temperature - and nice to eat  :-X

Maybe, but the planning is spot on and can only improved next time by including a flask of Bovril. As you said - the Canaries were terrible !

Ian,
Maybe next time you can treat your lad to pie, mash & liquor in London, but you will have to watch the Gooners as the Hammers are firing blanks at the moment  :(

Glad you had a good day

Geoff - have to say David Silva was worth paying a little extra for - back to his best.

The Hammers are going to have a tough season - but I would persevere with Big Sam - as there are definitely 4/5 teams much worse than you so he will most certainly keep you up......

It's just the football is not pretty to watch which is a symptom of not having "lots of money" - sadly  :-\

Badger I am not sure Ian will get any pie, mash and liqour at the Emirates, but they do a nice Chicken Tikka pie in the ground, but like the meat and tatty pie in t'north, it does cost a kings ransom.
