We have eaten there twice since we arrived.  Menu is very good and the Chef, Hussein, has been with them for about 10 years now.   My absolute favourite meal is their Chicken Topkapi.
We noted this last week that a lot of the restaurants were quite empty, but Georges as usual was full. Last night Serkul 1 had two tables of people and Serkul 2 had one.  Georges was full.  Only a handful of people in Enya too.  Think it is because Georges gets repeat business every year as unlike other restaurants, it has always been there unchanged for a long time  and is consistently good.
They have the puffy bread (Lavash) with butter and two mezes for free to start with.  Also cay or coffee free at the end of the meal and a small shot of banana liqueur.   Our meal last night with two rounds of drinks was  110.00 lira as I recall.
Next year they are having a re-build of the place, with an upstairs terrace and six letting bedrooms.
Give it a try, you will not be disapointed.

So you had 2 dinners last night then Jacqui,   ;) did you have dinner in Georges while you were waiting 25 mins for a table at the meeting point, I have to admire you, you are either very patriotic  to those restaurants or you have one hell of an appetite    ;) :o

Is The Eyna doing meals at night again this year? We spent most evenings there after we had eaten in other restaurants. It was usually packed but later on and until Georges had long closed... They had decided it was better this way..
It is a busy place during the day for breakfasts and coffee. Cold drinks and snacks.. etc.

Anne, Did not notice if Eyna where serving meals, but they were very empty.  I have never seen so many people in Calis, it is packed.  Good to see so many holidaymakers...and no kids.

Madbaz, Give George's a try and tell them you are friends of Jacqui & Phil....they may throw you out  :)

Explain Jacqui !!  Are you saying holiday makers are welcome but not if they have children, that doesn't sound like the Jacqui I know who puts lovely pics of her granddaughter Erin on Facebook. :-\

No good trying that Madbaz, it is cash only in Georges.

Des, We love our Granddaughter, but we do not want to be on holiday with lots of children,  we do not know and love. We have had all the holidays with our own children over the years, so been there and done than.  We now want children free holidays, adult holidays, which is why we come at the time of the year we do.   ;)

We've been this evening and I tried the famous Chicken Topkapi.  Thanks for the recommendation Jacqui,  it was very nice.

Dare I say it was out-performed by my OH's Filet Mignon - now that was superb!!
Both dishes were well presented with fresh veg (and the obligatory rice "boob"  ;)  )  Both very tasty.  No complaints here.

Well Iam sorry toiss on everyone's chips but we tried this second rate establishment last night and were really disappointed.Service was terrible, after inviting us in to a table they then promptly ignored us for 10 minutes. Can we order drinks please, ten minutes, can we have a menu please ,ten minutes and then an apology that they were very busy catering for a birthday dinner at a large table in the middle. After an age he took our orders, sorry no roast chicken, sorry no chateau briand etc this went on for a while until he could tell us what he actually had as opposed to what was on the menu!Succesfully ordered we sat and waited 20 mins before he came back and told us they didn't have what was ordered so we opted for Calamari,2 came together and were cooked well, the 3rd we had to ask for and it was sent back as undercooked.By this point I was ready to leave so spoke to the head waiter, told him we weren't happy with the service or problems with the menu,it went straight over his head. When mains came they were okay.Didnt order desert as just wanted to leave,no free coffee or cay offered or accepted no tip given I would not recommend to anyone when there are much better places for food and service

Sorry you had a bad experience Steve, in 10 years we have never had one.  There is no Head Waiter..  Just the owner's son's and Yusef.
I will speak to them and ask what the problem was.
I have met two members from the Forum in Georges. One said he thought this was the best place in Calis the other said the meal was fab.
I suppose you can get a bad night.
I just showed this to Phil, who is amazed and asked are you sure you got the right place??  he always wondered who the Head Waiter was.

Yes I got the right place,I know he was the head waiter as I asked for him and he confirmed he was in fact the head waiter by saying "Iam the head waiter can I help you?" A bad night maybe ,but looked to me that they were spending all of their efforts on the large Birthday table to the detriment of other customers using th e explanation that they were busier than expected. It wasn't full either so my view is that you must be able to deal with a capacity crowd with no dip in standards.Sorry not for us

We were there two days ago and met a new member of this Forum, who said it was his favourite place in Calis. He said it was the fall back place for good food.  We agreed.  The place was full as usual and we still got good service as we always do.
I will speak to Savas, the owner's son and let him see your post.   It is so unlike George's that I am shocked.

We used George's a lot when we lived over there, mainly because George himself was/is a lovely guy and a good friend. I would say it is a good restaurant - unremarkable, but good.

It's not a regular haunt but we've always enjoyed our food there. Service was efficient, not over the top but no complaints. We'll be back no doubt!

Yes even after he retired and then had a heart attack and  then an operation and then stomach trouble, he is always there every night and has a word with everyone.  His wife is in the booth making the puffy bread and of course the one boy is behind the bar and the other in the restaurant.   We have had two visits in the last week and met two members there who recognised me.  Both enjoyed their meals. Bluwise was one lady I met along with her husband.  Lovely to meet her at last.  The other was a new member and nice to meet him too. We will be back next week.

Maybe try the new adult only hotel being built next to the Sensatori then. Should be kid free for you!
