Title: The Olive Garden - Kabak
Post by: nichola on July 10, 2015, 10:00:35 AM
A tranquil getaway just a short but hairy drive around the coastline from Ölüdeniz...

The Olive Garden and other places in Kabak are generally visited by walkers, nature lovers, yogis and those that just want to relax in peace and tranquility.

Carole and Tayfun do this as a tour on Wednesdays and Saturdays - maximum 12 people

You can drive or get there by Dolmuş - last stop then a steep but short walk down to the Olive Garden on a bumpy unmade road, which carries on down to the beach.

Yes Chris, over the winter     :)

I should have taken photos of the wooden bungalows as well as it is possible to stay there too.

We were in Hisaronu and asked directions.  The shop owner and his English girlfriend told us not to go in the car as the road was very dangerous.  The woman told us she had been once in a car and would not go again. They advised us to get the dolmus.  So we gave up and went to Kakakoy for lunch instead.

We went the day before you, it was absolutely glorious.
Only us and about six other people there!

Not necessarily the place to go with younger kids/teenagers if they prefer somewhere a bit more lively but we all loved it.
The road there was also nowhere near as bad as we'd been led to believe!

Wonderful place! It must be pure bliss when you need a peaceful hideaway.

These are great photos Nichola, I hope you don't mind but I've copied them because they're so much better than mine!  8)

The drive is ok if you take it steady, I've done it a few times now, well worth it for the views and the fabulous Olive Garden when you arrive there.

A visited the Olive Garden twice last year. Both times by dolmus from Olu. First time we stayed the day, second time stayed the night with friends in the wooden chalets. Very basic, bed, en suite. Very reasonable price which included evening meal. Overnight stay and breakfast. The road was good all the way, reminded us of the coast road to Kalcan. Very doable in a car. Brilliant place

Cheers.

I think you would be better to go to Hisaronu and get a taxi from there,  it would be much cheaper.

Love the place, a regular visit for us.   Not keen on the road, but well worth the bitten fingers nails....just close your eyes if something else comes the other way..... Fatih and his team are absolutely lovely and look after your every need  (ie: food /efes/food / efes / food / efes..........)

Been 5 or 6 times by car and no problems as long as you keep your wits about you and do not drive the Turkish way.

Yes it is a little hairy for some of the journey, but well worth it for some of the scenic stops and the lovely Olive Garden.  For the faint hearted, I am pleased to report when we went last week crash barriers are being installed on many of the unguarded roads with steep drops on the side, so the journey is getting much safer to undertake.

We've been there a few times including an overnight stay in the log cabins/bungalows - functional but clean and great views in the morning when you wake up. Great value and very tranquil. We stayed for an anniversary and they looked after us and our guests very well indeed. Never seen a problem in the road really, it might not be the A1 but it just twists and turns - just drive carefully and if Turks or any other nationality want to speed past you let them! The only problem we had was actually getting up their steep drive but giving it some welly seemed to work ok   :).

The road is certainly not as bad as people make out,but it's not for the faint hearted. We made a day of it and took the dolmus from Calis to Fethiye, then Fethiye to Kabak the whole journey was about an hour ,cheap as chips and very interesting admiring the scenery etc.The driver stopped a couple of times so people could get off ,admire the views and take photos,he also had bottled what free of charge !
After our day and night at The Olive Garden we put our backpacks on and started to walk back to Fethiye but to be fair when we had done around 10k up hill and down dale in the midday sun we gave up and jumped on the next dolmus,it had been a lovely walk though
