My girlfriend at the time was on the Students Union organising committee and I got in for free.

I think it was a couple of weeks before they all appeared at the first Glastonbury Festival.

Keith, I used to work in Rotters in Doncaster, a really big club with a capacity of 3,000, this was in the mid 70s. We were approached by a guy called Sam Jackson, Sam had the Porterhouse club, in Retford I seem to remember. Sam had been promoting young an upon coming bands and wanted to move up a rung on the ladder and use the larger venue. One of the bands was Big Country, they did 2 sets and I was the warm up DJ. But get this, Sam had booked simple minds to play and we had to cancel the event after selling only 36 advance tickets, a few years later they would go on to sell out most of the major stadiums around the world. It was a great time and gave me the opportunity to introduce Ultravox, UB 40, Average White Band, Bad Manners (great bunch of lads) Dexys midnight runners (Kevin Roland a total pr**k ! ) Slade, Human League and many more. I wish digital cameras had been more common back then.

My varied tastes (some may say bland!) of acts we've paid to see
(the 60's acts are mine!!!)

Phil Collins (really good)
Rod Stewart (better than I expected)
Cliff Richards (average)
Beautiful South (twice)
Madness (great fun twice)
Mick Hicknall (twice)
The Corrs (ok)
Lionel Ritchie (3 times - due to the wife  :))
Michael McDonald (twice brilliant - considered going to the states to see him again as he doesn't tour in the UK enough)
Celine Dion (very good)
Michael and the Mechanics (very very good)
Dianna Ross (ok)
Ronan Keating (average)
The Manfreds (my favourites - 3 times - because of me  :))
Bryan Ferry (poor)
Lighthouse Family (very very good)
Gabrielle (very good)
Gerry and the Pacemakers (a mistake!)
Dave Dee, Dozy (you know the rest!!) (not really)
Hermans Hermits (excellent)
The Fortunes (excellent)
Elton John (went for a pizza and walked out after 30 minutes)
Take That (very polished)
Alan Price (excellent)
Dave Berry (good)
Pet Shop Boys (3 times - very very good)
David Gray (good)
Craig David (walked out after 30 minutes - at which point I noticed I was by 20 years the oldest in the theatre!!)
Gloria Estefan (good)
Earth Wind and Fire (poor)
David Gates (good)
The Eagles (good after a poor start)
Shirely Bassey in Hyde Park  :)

I never realised it was this many - must have cost me a small fortune and I must have missed a few!!!!

Ps Badger - would have loved to have seen Roy Orbison - was he good - if not don't reply - you will spoil my image of him ?

Ian I agree with you about Michael McDonald, we saw him on he Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and he was wonderful. Have tickets to see Paul Carrack there in Feb 2012 (ex Ace, Squeeze, Mike & the Mechanics) to name just a few. This will be our third time to see Paul.
