Online Shopping in Turkey - a solution?
« on: March 28, 2014, 10:48:08 AM »
First of all please do not tell Jacqui Harvey I am posting in the Shopping section, I'll never be allowed to live it down.  ;) ;D

Anyway I have often been frustrated in obtaining certain IT items here in Turkey, with the local shops carrying a very small range of products, I have to order from the various UK suppliers and have them brought over.  An additional problem is that if any of these products have mains the plug fittings are wrong requiring adaptors and usually blocking out neighbouring sockets on the 'gang plugs'.  All pure faf!!

So I am delighted to report that I have found a Turkish online site that supplies most, if not all, the IT kit I need AND it also has a range of other shopping products such as electrical, clothing, washing powder etc. similar to the tax dodger Amazon range, but probably not as wide or as deep, if you see what I mean.  Yes I ran each of the web pages through Chrome's Google Translate, but unlike a lot of sites the text all translated well enough.  I ordered a pair of powerline adaptors (price similar to UK) and they were delivered to me within 3 days, which is what they said, plus I could track the orders progress through the site and the courier company in the same way as you can in the UK.  So having used the service I am recommending http://www.hepsiburada.com/.  I am sure there are other sites who offer a similar service in Turkey, and I'd be glad to hear of them if you have used them successfully.

Finally, one other service this site offers is the ability to pay for your purchase at your door when it is delivered.  It costs an extra 12.70TL and requires a 'specialist' courier, but it is simple to choose as an option, and for those who do not have, or do not want, to use a credit card (UK or Turkish) this is a great service.

Have been using them for years. One thing to watch is that they (Hepsiburada) do not stock the items, they buy from a supplier once you have ordered, so delivery times will vary.

I use http://www.ereyon.com.tr/  http://www.koctas.com.tr/Kurumsal/Content.asp?TID=562  https://www.hediyeloni.com/default.asp?islem=tm&ID=1069&b=tv-urunleri   http://www.gold.com.tr/   http://magaza.hammaddeler.com/Icecek-Sektoru,LA_5634-2.html#labels=5637-2&stockOnly=&type=catalog&searchalpha=&searchprice=&tp=3

I have set a virtual credit card up at Garanti I just transfer the amount I need from my daily account, so even if the card is compromised no money is taken. All sites work ok in google translate.

Thanks Mark a very useful list for future reference and indeed choice!!  Also showed a good example of what I meant by shops carrying a lower level of items than online.  I checked the Gold site out and they had what I wanted, but their Fethiye shop did not carry the item.

You can buy an iPad from Gold cheaper than Currys in the UK.  Dont you just love exchange rates...?

As long as you don't take advantage of the Aldi . Lidl, and Netto sales sites, I don't think Jacqui will be upset, as she likes to have " First dibs " on them !!    ;) : :)

Tut tut gordonA.  You are being an extremely naughty boy lately.  You already are speaking in a squeaky voice, what is the next punishment for your naughtiness.   ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)
