Manchester to istanbul.
« on: November 17, 2013, 19:32:28 PM »
Please can anyone explain the journey if you want to end up in Fethiye.

Do you get the plane at Manchester, fly to istanbul, then go by land to Dalaman and onwards.

Or Do we change planes at Istanbul and carry on to Dalaman.

Someone said plane Manchester, istanbul, stay on the same plane on runway, then carry on to Dalaman?

Has anyone completed this journey or knows the ins and outs of it please
Thanks Bernie

Hi Bernie

You fly from Manchester to Istanbul, after getting off that flight, make your way from the International terminal to the domestic terminal and catch your flight from there down to Dalaman.

It's pretty straight forward but sometimes the flight times don't connect at Istanbul and you need to stop over one night.

It's a bit of a walk from the International Terminal to the Domestic but it's all under cover and very well signposted. When you check in at Manchester just double-check that your luggage is tagged for Dalaman. In 99% of cases (see what I did there?) it will be tagged for DLM and you won't have to worry about re-claiming it at IST and lugging it around with you. If you're flying both legs with Turkish Airlines they'll issue you with boarding cards for the IST - DLM flight at Manchester, but it's worthwhile going to the Turkish Airlines desk in IST Domestic Terminal to confirm your seats.

If you've booked from Manchester to Dalaman, you will probably have to change flights.  You shouldn't have to collect your luggage if the flight is Manchester to Dalaman BUT you will need to obtain your visa on arrival at Istanbul.  When you book a flight or even check a flight, it will tell you the length of time it takes from point A to B so you will know how long you will have to wait for your connecting flight. I have always found them to be very nice at both airports in Istanbul.  Good luck and enjoy.

If you do check your luggage to go through from Manchester to Istanbul, you will have to find the bus as you land at the Dalaman domestic terminal which will take you then to the International terminal for you to collect your luggage and clear customs.

It sounds much more complicated than it is.

An easier option is to fly to Antalya and get the coach down... Or you could have a night in a hotel then carry on to Fethiye..

I wouldn't call Antalya an easier option. Just an alternative with an extra 2 hours on a bus.
