it's manchester tart, we still make it for patients and staff.
my fave was prunes and custard and i got everyone's as nobody liked them

You can always tell the upper classes

Here we have suggestions, "Manchester Tart", "Gypsy Tart", "Lemon Curd Tart", then of course we have Lady Pookie's "Millionaire's Shortcake"

Hi nutty bird i think its gypsy tart but on my previous post i said condensed milk .it is evaporated milk and brown sugar beautiful:D

Manchester tart used to have thinly sliced bananas in at our school. Mind you that was the 60,s and before they cut back on fruit and veg!! but it did have a thin layer of jam, custardy topping and sprinkled with coconut. mmmm!!!

Hi nuttybird the gypsy tart i said about originated in Kent so if you went to south London school or kentish i reckon thats it use muscovado sugar.
