Things to do on a trip to Edinburgh.
« on: December 20, 2012, 13:40:36 PM »
We are planning to use some air miles I have accrued for a trip to the north. Planning to stay for a few days with my wife and our son (12yrs old)

Would welcome suggestions on things to see/do whilst there as never been before. Whilst ideas for kids is welcome general ideas for all is also good as our lad is generally laid back and open to looking at history etc. as for shopping....he has more patience than me!

We are flying in and staying in the city so won't have a car.

The obvious ones - Royal Mile, castle etc are easily done on foot. Lots of steps in Edinburgh so things are close together generally but you'll feel your calf muscles in the mornings  :) It is a beautiful city so you can stroll about and enjoy it all.

We also did an open top bus tour which is good, some great vintage buses too if you are lucky.

For kids, Edinburgh dungeons is brilliant, don't miss that - you can close your eyes Steve  ;)

Lunch at Jimmy Chungs - a fabulous eat all you like Chinese, one of the best I've been to.

Get on a train or bus to Glasgow.

Yes, there's a really good Citylink service and it's not very expensive.

There is a museum of childhood which my daughter enjoyed when she was younger.
Dynamic Earth for all ages.

I think you need to hire a car and get out of Edinurgh though to see the real Scotland.
