I think it's a natural progression for firms like Ryanair who must cringe when they can't get extra money off those who have the special 'airline jackets' that they stuff with whatever they can get into them.

I don't think they would have to weigh anyone though - just make them walk through a gap large enough for the average person. If they can get through then they pay for one seat. If not they pay for two. They could tell you the measurements when you book so that you know if your waist is too big or not.

I'm not sure basing it just on weight would be fair really. I mean some guys are 6'6 + and weigh quite a bit yet would still fit inside a standard seat - and to be fair most tall people would pay for extra legroom seats anyway.

Tinx can go under your seat  ;)

I Think that Airlines should give fatties  a discount think of the fuel that they save when landing the plane, it must fall from the sky quicker the heavier it is  ;D

No because they have to have a maximum landing weight which is lesser than the maximum take of weight so that wouldn't work.   :)

I wonder whether it would be a good idea to do a poo before checking in

Currently (as I treat it like a game - they are trying to screw me so I score as many points as I can and NEVER pay for extra weight) - So I have been known to turn up at check-in with 2 winter coats on because I know I can get away with it but if this comes in sandals T-shirt and flip flops in December for me :-)

PS if you think I am cheeky - they got me in December - I paid for coffees on the plane in lira (as they asked if I could as they had no change) and they converted at 3.5 to the pound - Gill doesn't like me to make a scene but never again will I get caught on that one !

I agree in principle, I can never quite understand why you can be as fat as you like and not be penalised, but go 1k over  baggage allowance and get screwed for it, but having a husband who takes up quite a lot of room I wouldn't want to be paying for his excess baggage!!

Great, now we have that pearl of wisdom, we chubs can all go and un-inflict ourselves!
