Title: Christmas Ripoff
Post by: Colwyn on December 19, 2013, 11:29:11 AM
I am aware that there may be all kinds of dodges going on at this time of year but it is the first time I've experienced this one. I have been shopping in Lidl where I buy a tray of 18 lagers. I took a tray of premium lagers off the shelf. There were a few gaps in the tray so I filled them up with individual cans. At the checkout I put one can on the conveyor and said "I have 18 of these" and paid for them. It was only when I got home and was unloading them that I discovered I had filled a couple of gaps with cheapo lager - but had paid premium price for them.

I comes to something when you can't even trust yourself not to rip you off!

Yours, Distraught of Bristol

Where Puma's from they buy slabs of cheap lager and slip some of the expensive cans into the middle  ;)

Colwyn for two reasons you have slipped of the pedestal I had placed you on.

Firstly with this terrible self inflicted wound of an error with Herr Lidl.  Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, what are you doing buying lagers in the first place  :o :o :o And I do not care if they were premium or not.  ;)

From memory they are more than premium...as I'll leave Sir Colwyn of Avonshire On Avon to explain :D

UBT. I am buying lager because if I feel the need for something wet over Xmas (i.e. not red wine, which is dry) I'm not going to have some plastic ale out of a tin because it is all vile. Bottled beers are OK but even with those I prefer draught. I have sworn off drinking cider since I had my full lifetime quota during my teens and early twenties.

Scunner, it is "premium pilsener finest quality" brewed in accordance with Reinheitgebo (German Purity Law) but I suspect you meant something different.

No honestly Gordy - you'd be amazed at what I remember. It's the "why am I staring into the fridge" things I forget :D

Anyway boys, the Reinheitgebo ensures that the beer is organic, free range and vegetarian - so it's good for you, provided it is taken in sufficient quantities.

Colwyn this purity of the lager notion -free range or otherwise - has to be challenged.  I see myself in this respect as a latter day Frank D Ripper from Dr Strangelove, and in order to prevent harm to my 'precious bodily fluids' I have fore sworn myself off the the Teutonic brew, that seeks to dominate the world for the master race more effectively and efficiently than the Euro.  And so only drink the finest of English beers, and so maintain a 'purity of essence'.

Well your fine English beer is doing you no harm at all and helping you with your thought processes then UBT ?

I eschew this little Englander attitude which prejudices folk against the excellence of Bavarian (and Czech) brews. Drinling only finest English beers must rather restrict your bar hopping in Calis. It wouldn't do you a lot of good in Wales either - missing out on Brains SA ("Skull Attack" ;), Wye Valley Butty Bach and Felin Foel (not pronounced "feeling foul" ;) Double Dragon to point out just a few. I'm not sure the Cornish would let you dabble with St Austell Tribute or Sharp's Doom Bar either.

Have the Belgians upset you Colwyn - their efforts are not too shabby either !

The only times I have been in Belgium was a couple of summers as a hitch-hiker when my main concern was to pass through the place as fast as possible. Oh and I have been to the vast Brussels Airport a few times but I don't count that as it is really a country in its own right which, strangely, is actually larger than Belgium.
