My friend had the best one I have heard although we're going back a number of years to the days when most cold calls seemed to be about double glazing and the like. He would express interest in conservatories and ask for more information. The caller would take the opportunity to push for an appointment for their conservatory sales specialist and reluctantly my friend would give in and allow them to make one.

No salesmen ever turned up though - to his flat on the 3rd floor :D

I hate the automated ones where it's a recorded voice.....'hello, we'd like to tell you about our great offer for....'

It just feels like they aren't even trying

My answer was the same as Kenkays, but for a very different reason, it was from whoever i was getting my gas off at the time, but it was an indian guy, he said they needed me to give them my meter reading, i told him it was under the kitchen units, right in the corner, and i couldn't fint my torch to read it, he told my to use a match, so i gave him my answer and slammed the phone down, never heard from them after that, i wonder why. lol. Slightly off topic I think but has anyone had problems with the noble flagship of the UK, The AA? I had car insurance with them and for weeks afterwards my phone would ring (landline) but absolutely nobody and nothing there. Often 3-4 times a day. I searched for the number on Google and found many angry folks who had also taken out breakdown, home or car cover with the AA recently and had traced it back to an unmanned AA number. Quite what the benefit of ringing all their new customers all day every day for about a month is I have no idea, but I'll never use the AA for anything again now.

The Johova's Witnesses who come to my front door and want to talk to me about The Bible are most reluctant to have a little half-hour chat about Karl Marx' Das Capital first. Limited interest in books, I guess.

I just tell them that I am a buddhist, the wife is Jewish and our daughter is Catholic...and none of us is willing to change. :o
we then point them off in the direction of our Muslim neighbours. ;)

Having received the odd cold call, I now (if I can be bothered) do cold call baiting, all you have to do is see how long you can keep them on the phone for to no avail.  My personal best is almost 45 minutes before the indian gentleman I was talking to realised that I was taking the p!55 and he hung up on me.  RESULT!

Another occassion it was a fitted kitchen call and the nice lady hung up when I explained that I couldnt tell her what the kitchen units looked like as I have a wife and therefore I have no need to ever go into the kitchen.

A good line to take if its insurance/cars/phones etc or the like is to tell them that you get whatever it is theyre selling as part of your job package and you get it for free.

I have caller display on my phone and NEVER answer "unknown" 0800 or 0845 numbers. If they are not logged in my phone directory, they don't get an answer. They never leave a message either when phone goes to voice mail!
