Well I'm in the process of doing my family tree and the info on the censuses from 1911 and before is absolutley fantastic - and so interesting. Without doubt they give a brief snapshot into what was happening back then. What people did for a living and who lived or boarded with them. Believe it or not - some people are interested in where they came from.

As for the questions in this one - I think Chinook has summed it up perfectly.

I think what is asked in the census is fairly mild and nothing that is not on record somewhere else already. I get e mails, normal mail and telephone calls from companies/individuals I have never heard of some of which are even promoting/selling something I have an interest in.
I am still surprised when I telephone a company for the first time to be immediately addressed by my name. The moment you join or become involved in anything anything that needs your name and address you can kiss privacy goodbye. Big business knows more about us than any government ever will.

Hi KKOB
I agree with your tongue in cheek comments on the Census

Your description of specific racial groups is unusual in this day and age though.

When I received the form I noted that it was meant to be completed on 23rd March so I completed it and returned it immediately ensuring that the answer to occupation was "clairvoyant":D
