Top 5 Restaurants
« on: September 09, 2012, 16:53:26 PM »
Not exactly the right category for this but when in Turkey with friends we went to a few restaurants and at the end concluded our top 5 list.

This is not Calis specific but more the close(ish) surrounding area. Top 5 is a combination of price, service and of course the quality of food. Our favourites have completely changed since last year.

So...our list is......

1. Akkaya Garden Restaurant - Akkaya

Top due to the venue, truly amazing and the service was superb. The day we spent there in general was fantastic and the prices were better than many other places we have tried on the prom or in Fethiye.

2. Shaka - New promenade, Fethiye

We loved the venue and the ambiance. Food had a greater choic of more Western and American dishes which suited us fine and the desserts were the best we have found.

3. Shine - Hissy

The best Indian food we have had in a long time and the best ever in Turkey. A little more expensive than a normal meal but worth it.

4. Bella Mamas - Calis

Our number one place until recently. Not doing anything wrong as service as ever was great and so was the food. But the surroundings and overall quality compared to the above meant it is now a deserving 4th

5. Kebab restaurant/Cafe (Updated! Gunislik (Frank Cannons)  - Calis

We can never remember the name for this one but it is on the main road (on right) as you head towards the prom in Calis (near the Irish bar?). I'm guessing it is the owners wife that sits in the little booth at the front cutting the meat from the spit. Anyway, a bargain chicken Donna in flat bread or pitta with salad for just a couple of Lira. Not exactly an evening meal but ideal as a snack and absolutely delicious.

So...that's mine....what's yours?

That was how I spelt it too - but it is Gunisik. Last time I was there it was quite late and a gobby person from our flight was there.

Our 5 for 2012 (May) in no particular order:

1. Frank Cannon's (Gunisik) - fabulous chicken doner wraps and great set menus that can include an Efes. What's not to like. Great staff too.

2. Receps in the Fish Market. Never disappoints. Great atmosphere and experience, even after all these years   :)

3. Mozaik Bahce: The mixed grill from heaven - all boxes ticked - staff, food, ambience. Apparently I can't book my usual table anymore though!

4. King's Garden: Loved the place, I am obsessed with the rock tombs which is a start - I'd love to work there just taking people up to them and boring the pants off them about the history - we love the views and Salih has become a good friend. Food not too bad either!

5. Sahil Lokantasi: You can't beat a traditional Turkish lokanta next to a dusty road at one of the busiest junctions in the whole town. This feels authentic to us and we've never had a bad meal. Top quality budget food.

Only been to Calis once but best restaurants were:
1. Mozaik Bahce in Fethiye , by far the best we ate in.
2. Nil Bar, good food and good characters.
3.Zayra, away from the main drag but great food and good value.
4.Merhaba
5.Gunsilik for overall value for money.

Could post the worst but o not wish to offend!

Thanks for correcting me Boss. Sorry to hear you had to endure a gob-sh4te in Gunisik, especially so late at night. It's enough to put you off your half bread and Efes!!!!!!
  ;)  ;)
