Same here Bob, the staff were brilliant and nothing too much bother, Memhet always had a word as well and who can forget that famous duo, Dennis and his daughter, have only eaten in the new one approx 4 times, food was good but atmosphere zero.

Goodbye Orient Express ?

I think it's a shame. The orient was the first place we visited in calis 25 years ago and we ate most of our meals there . The owner Mehmet and his family were always charming. In fact we have like most of the staff over the years the first waiter we met there was of course Mehmet of the Harem fame and then Falcon, however chicken George was there from the early days and we saw him as we have a great many other lads,  grow up. I can only imagine Mehmet boss has decided it's time to retire and if that's the case I wish him luch cops he's worked very hard over the years and deserves a rest!

It's now called the Eftalya Restaurant and have to say looks very nice, I stopped to read the menu and although it has a nice selection of fish, it's far from a fish only place. The guy came out to speak to us and assured us of the freshness of their food, the mezes were all on display in a cold cabinet and he wanted to take us inside to show us the kitchens and to look in the fridge where we would see he wasn't serving frozen foods, we declined but the menu did look nice and we will give it a try soon. Phone number is 0252 622 1176

Does this confirm Mehmet has sold? Assuming it does it really is the end of an era. I've said many times, the Orient was once the place to eat in Calis. A bit sad to think it's gone.

Mehmet's brother Bekir used to work in the Orient.
Does anyone know where he is now?
Bekir ran the Vegat Apartments for a while and we spent a few great holidays there until he gave them up.
