I have been wondering the same thing brummyboy. We are going next weekend to furnish the apartment and I'm not sure if you go round the place getting prices of each individual item, then at the end when you've totalled it all up, tell them you want 10% or 20% discount if you're to buy the lot from the one shop.

Even here in England, if you went into a furniture shop and said you wanted to completely furnish a new four bedroom apartment, they'd be biting your hand off to give you a cracking discount.

Mark.

It depends, if you walk in straight off the street then you should barter, if you went along with an agent you trust, then the best prices should be available up front.

There are several furnishing price lists on this site to give you a guide, the best tip I can give you, if you think you are getting good value for money then take it and move on.

Good luck and enjoy the experience.

Brummyboy,
If you are buying loads of stuff from Bekir he will look after you and give you the best prices. You don't have to worry about bartering with him. He is a really great bloke and will not rip you off :)

Is haggling the norm in most shops? - I am thinking of the bigger furniture shops, can you negoatiate the price?

A Turkish friend of ours told us that you wouldn't normally haggle for electrical goods but everything else is fair game - in fact its expected!

We bought our place with a furniture package from the builder.  Big mistake!  It's horrible and not to my taste at all : :)
So when we were buying other bits and pieces I just paid the asking price glad to have found some decent stuff.

I agree with Russ, Bekir will give you good prices anyway, he even threw in a couple of presents for us - gratis! We have a few more things to get and would definately go back to him.
