Title: Hi there folks
Post by: Finlander on August 19, 2017, 13:31:09 PM
Hi
My first post just to intoduce myself. My name is Geoff and I am from Essex England. I have joined the group to get some information as we are planning to buy a villa in Turkey in the very near future. We are foster parents so as you can imagine with 4 kids holidays are expensive. We plan to use the villa for extended holidays but also to rent it out in the hope it will cover the expenses and provide some money towards our flights. Im looking forward to grilling you all for information.

Geoff

Welcome to the forum Geoff.

Sorry to burst your bubble at such an early but I doubt you're going to make any money after purchasing and renting out a property in the current economic climate.

Is the holiday rental market that bad? Im looking at this as a longterm thing. It costs me about 5000 a year to take my daughters away. The purchase will be a cash buy for abput 100000. Im not looking to make any money on the asset. All i am really looking for is to cover the maintance and bills of the villa and some left over to help cover flights. So hoping for about 6000 a year at the most. Is that unachievable at the moment?

If you are prepared to jump through all the hoops needed these days to rent out, I'd say it's a pretty good time to buy. There isn't anything like as much competition in the rental market these days.

What are the hoops? The agent has told us that we jave to pay tax on the income. Are there other rules?

Yes, registering the property for renting and informing the authorities every time who is staying there. For starters.
