Hello from another new UK member
« on: July 29, 2019, 18:33:21 PM »
Hello.

My name is Paul and I live in Essex - though I'm originally from just outside Manchester. Thank you for adding me to the list of members.

My wife and I have just booked our first ever holiday to Turkey (10 nights in Calis) in October 2019. We like to have mini adventures and we intend to visit Ephesus / Pamukkale, Tlos, Kayakoy and, perhaps, Gocek. It looks like a fascinating area to explore.  As it's such a large country, I suspect we'll be returning to try out other locations - though neither of us are sun worshippers or nightclubbers.  Small, interesting and with access to decent food and drink are our preferences.  Calis looks like it will be a good base from which to explore.

Anyway, thanks again and I look forward to receiving sensible answers to the daft questions I'll no doubt be asking in the coming weeks    :)

Hi Paul and welcome to CBF. We've been going since 2002 so like it a bit  ;D
We'll also be there in October, for a month. It's a good time to go if you want to do a bit of exploring as the weather can be great without being too hot. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and be back !

Welcome Paul
Calis is a fantastic base for a bit of exploring but don't forget to visit Fethyie too. Enjoy a lovely walk through the new park onto the kordon which has a plethora of great restaurants to while away an evening

Many thanks, all, for the welcome.

We're really stoked about this holiday as, for a variety of reasons, it's been a challenging year for both my wife and myself and a 10-day break will, hopefully, allow us to relax a bit.

The hotel we're staying at in Calis is fairly central and not far from the Fethiye water taxi drop off.  Will the water taxi still be running in October? We were told by our travel agent (she owns a flat in Calis and has been there 20 out of the last 20-odd years) that the hotel is 3 star - simple but very clean and great service.  This suits us to perfection as all we want is a safe base from which to do our exploring.

Another quick question, we were told that we need to carry our passports and visa documents with us at all times.  That's unusual compared to other holidays we've been on where we've deposited the passports with the hotel.  We have scanned copies and printed copies so, would they be sufficient or must we take the originals?

Anyways, thanks again. Can't wait to be experiencing Calis, Fethiye and the surrounding areas.
