Bernie, I know halfway how you feel, two years ago fell down the last 3 stairs at home and badly broke my ankle, was in plaster for 6 weeks, then on a frame.  Have an ankle full of metal but luckily being fairly fit was back on my feet as soon as plaster was off.  I wish you all the very best for a speedy recovery, and my best advice to you is get to physio as soon as you can and work really hard at regaining your fitness. xx
