My mate, Pete Mallaband (Serinkent pool King) has just turned 60 plus 1 (sorry Pete) Pete is still part of a band and is as enthusiastic about making music than any 16 year old. Keep it going Pete.

We were in Budapest last weekend, I remember one of my favourite concerts of all time was Queen live in Budapest. anyway sitting in a bar waiting for my Goulash Soup (was delicious) this came on the screen, never seen it before but love it ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DaY8-Mui0I

Went to see Rush on this tour in Birmingham, the crowd was not this big! I like these guys courtesy of my brother, while I was trying to indoctrinate him into Tamla and 70s Soul, he ploughed his own path and discovered Rush. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdLUx_F2FUA

Roxy Music in the Cardiff Capitol theatre in 1973, now long gone !, an intimate concert with that small theatre feel, which helped form an impressionable 14 year old's musical tastes for the rest of his life !!.
At that time they were innovative, different and refreshing, with the likes of Brian Eno stood in front of his Moog synthesiser and tape spools dressed like something from the planet "Zog", and "Byron Ferrari" with his different vocals and total "front man" charisma, Andy Mackay's blistering sax and oboe solo's, all went to provide a truly unforgettable experience.
Far outshone some of the Arena concerts by much bigger "Super groups" that I have seen !. 8)

Rolling Stones on the Bridges to Babylon Tour -in the port at Malaga 94,000- unbelievable + Queen supporting Mott The Hoople at the Birmingham Top Rank (now there's a blast from the past)1971 or 72 on the release of their 1st album, you could see Mercury had charisma even then.2 bands that have stood the test of time, sadly,for Queen, I think most of their creativity went with the passing of Mercury, but they did enrol one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time in Paul Rodgers, if you ever get the chance to see him live, don't miss it.

We saw Queen at Wembley stadium in 1986 along with 72.000 others and when I play the DVD of the concert you realise just how great they were,and I don't think they will ever be equalled. One regret of mine - not seeing the Stones live :(

Just the opposite Badger, I saw the Stones back in 1966!! :o when I was all of 14 years old and I can still remember how brilliant they were and see Mick Jagger prancing around the stage!
My big regret is not seeing Queen play live before the great showman Freddie Mercury died.

I went to the Freddie Mercury Memorial concert at Wembley in 1992 & when I think of Seal singing "Who wants to live forever" the hairs on the back of my neck still stand up.

I would have loved to have seen Queen but I think my biggest regret was never getting to see Barry White.

My two live regrets (I'm younger than you lot I think ;) ) - not seeing The Clash and not seeing Big Country in their heyday :) Best live - Simple Minds at Wembley Stadium, U2 at MK Bowl before they went totally irritating, Stiff Little Fingers at Friars in Aylesbury (but anywhere really - proper live band).

I've only ever been to a concert once in my life. Medway & Maidstone Art College, 1971, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Hawkwind and a couple of other bands.

My girlfriend at the time was on the Students Union organising committee and I got in for free.
I think it was a couple of weeks before they all appeared at the first Glastonbury Festival.

Keith, I used to work in Rotters in Doncaster, a really big club with a capacity of 3,000, this was in the mid 70s. We were approached by a guy called Sam Jackson, Sam had the Porterhouse club, in Retford I seem to remember. Sam had been promoting young an upon coming bands and wanted to move up a rung on the ladder and use the larger venue. One of the bands was Big Country, they did 2 sets and I was the warm up DJ. But get this, Sam had booked simple minds to play and we had to cancel the event after selling only 36 advance tickets, a few years later they would go on to sell out most of the major stadiums around the world. It was a great time and gave me the opportunity to introduce Ultravox, UB 40, Average White Band, Bad Manners (great bunch of lads) Dexys midnight runners (Kevin Roland a total pr**k ! ) Slade, Human League and many more. I wish digital cameras had been more common back then.

Ian I agree with you about Michael McDonald, we saw him on he Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and he was wonderful. Have tickets to see Paul Carrack there in Feb 2012 (ex Ace, Squeeze, Mike & the Mechanics) to name just a few. This will be our third time to see Paul.

Been on the point of booking Paul Carrack at least twice in the past - you have just convinced me to do it :)

Best live gig ever, David Bowie at Glastonbury,s 25th anniversary
Best live bands this year were Lamb and the Alabama Three.
Saw the Darkness a few weeks ago, a great arena band.

Seen folk such as Rolling Stones, REM, Van Morrison etc but the three best live gigs 1. Commander Cody; 2. Thin Lizzy; 3.The Sensational Alex Harvey band

Interesting Fact: I heard Gerry Marsden sing this song (Don't let the sun catch you Crying) and he told the audience that he wrote it when he was very young.
He had just been "dumped" by the girl of his dreams and cried all night. He then decided to write a song in the early hours of the morning and then went round to his girlfriends and sung it to her - she changed her mind and is still his wife.
As much as he is a "joker" the man has real talent

Best I've seen were 10cc at Manchester Apollo. You may guess more than a few months ago ;) Best solos at same venue, Ray Charles & Bobby Darin 8)
