Post by: badger on July 15, 2019, 08:21:26 AM
I don't think I have been as excited by a sport final since 1966 as I was yesterday, edge of the seat cricket
Finish, not my preferred sport but what a lift for the game and the country.
In the words of 10cc "l don't like cricket- l love it  :D  8)

You couldn't have  written the script for either the cricket or tennis badger.

Rules in the cricket did seem a little strange

I'd started watching a bit of cricket but then turned over to watch the men's single final at Wimbledon, keeping a check on the cricket score on my phone. Of course the tennis was superb going on for as long as it possibly could with two such great players. But when it looked like the cricket was going to be close and possibly down to the last ball I turned over.
What an incredible match. I don't watch much cricket normally but this was the biggest match for years and couldn't believe how excited/nervous I got!  ;D
However I have to spare a thought for my Kiwi son in law who stayed up all night to watch to be heartbroken at the final ball.
Well done both teams though.

So right Badger - Cricket - Fantastic game - I was getting very excited cheering and jumping up from the settee and my wife was telling me to calm down as I had open heart surgery 10 weeks ago but hey - you don’t see a game like that very often.   :)

I felt so sorry for New Zealand but didn’t they conduct themselves superbly - just how Sport should be played.

Geoff - many thanks - not a problem though - they seem to know what they are doing with heart bypasses and I was lucky to have a great hospital down the road and apart from a couple of big scars - I am feeling really well.

Joined a gym and driving to Spain in 4 weeks as I was signed off as “back to normal” last week    :)

What a day of Sport yesterday - sort of makes the modern footballer look a little shallow (obviously not any that play for the Hammers of course    ;)   ;))

Best wishes to you and Irene

According to the rules the 6 should have been a 5 which would have put the weaker batsman on strike and of course another run would be needed from the last 2 balls.

But so what, about time England had a bit of luck in a major tournament. Great viewing.

Also sorry to hear of your heart problems Ian, hope you are doing well now.

It is quite amazing that no-one (either umpire, the third umpire (VAR), either captain, Sky Sports commentators and summarisers) were aware of the error.

Congratulations to England and also to New Zealand who have been magnificent in "defeat".
