Been in touch with Thomson's as saw they have flights to Dalaman from Aberdeen in September and October.
Asked could we please book to go in September and come back four weeks later? They have the flights on their system, they have seats available, but, we cannot book. This is because they can only book flights going out, that return in 7 or 14 days.
This means we cannot book with them. The girl in the shop tells me they want customers to book for Turkey as numbers are so far down from customers who want to visit and she herself cannot understand why, when there are flights, she cannot book them for us.
She also cannot book single journeys which would have been the answer.
This is totall madness.

Ridiculous - I was curious and tried to for myself on their website and it won't accept 28 days duration.

I tried one way Dalaman to Manchester October for our daughter. Thomson facebook said alll the flights were tied up in packages and to try later. Apparently the best time to get a flight is 6 weeks before you go. Have you looked at a Dalaman return for your date Jacqui.? Certainly not cheap at this time :)

The CO OP travel near me always put a dozen or so hand written "offers" posters in their window and typically would
include 3 or 4 Turkey offers. There has been nothing for Turkey for a couple of months now and they stopped including
the Turkish Lira on their Currency Exchange at the beginning of the year. Actions like these and airlines turning away
paying customers don't bode well for Turkish tourism. They need to help not hinder. :(

True Kevin, along with them all stopping direct flights to uk from Dalaman at end October, not good.

They will not do returns only, you have to book a round trip Bernie.
I have tried to complain but their online complaint form has to have a booking reference. Tried ringing, waste of time, three calls two told me to try again with the same number as I was in the wrong section, however, I had selected "complaints". Last call put me straight through to their Glasgow shop, who told me to ring the same number again...I gave up.

Have you tried Thomson Fly, on the Facebook page. They are doing some one ways just not to Manchester. Where you flying to Jacqui? Aberdeen? Sorry it's thomson airways Turkey. Might be worth messaging them x

I think part of the answer is that Thomson are not just an airline, they are a tour operator also. And as such, have taken hotels or rooms which they have guaranteed to pay. So they want to sell holidays, not just flights. How can they get bodies in beds if they just sell flight seats?
They have Sensatori near to Fethiye, for instance, so need to fill that as much as they can. Also have cruises from Marmaris, probably need to sell these cabins as just a Thomson ship.

Yes, but as the girl in the shop tells me, no one wants to go to Turkey they cannot sell the holidays. If they will let you have a two week flight in September, I cannot see it making a lot of different to extent it to October. The girl tells me there is lots of availability. In fact she tell me if someone is now coming in for a holiday, they have to ask them is there anywhere they do not want to go to, apparently the answer is always Turkey. They are departed to fill the flights.
Bernie looked at that page on F.B but don't see any information about booking flights.

Is this a Thomson retail shop or a different one? All very sad though isn't it? I have lots of travel agent friends and they have all told me the same, people definitely saying they don't want to holiday in Turkey.
Does anyone see this changing for next year?
I think the only thing saving resorts now is home tourism, there are lots of Turkish people on holiday now.

You message them with your requirements. Thomson airways Turkey. They had several lists with one way to uk flights. They got back to me within 24 hours

It isn't stupid - I assume it is because they will have bought hotel capacity early and need the people on their flights to be also taking rooms so they can reduce their accommodation losses. Sadly when you are having a bad season, selling two flights to someone who can't take up accommodation will not be at all attractive.

But, they will sell two flights for one week or two weeks, so what is the difference? The price they are charging for the flights is not cheap over £300 each, this is without luggage etc., If they do not want to sell stand alone flights why have a Flight Only section?
The girl in the shop says they cannot sell holidays to Turkey and have a lot of flights. I can hardly see a rush to book now and neither can she. >:(

Regarding one ways from Dalaman someone told me a number of years ago of a company based at Dalaman,
manned by English guys. Steelbird Aviation. Turkish friends used them to get one ways to the UK.

The Thomson office in Fethiye sells flights and the price quoted includes luggage so often cheaper than online. Number is 02526146663.

Just checked at the CO OP travel again. 24 offers in the windows, none for Turkey, nearest one was Rhodes. :(

I get Jet2 emails 2 or 3 times a week with lists of great reductions on flights. I don't think a Turkish airport has appeared once this year so far.

Given the state of things I would have expected the businesses the be inundating the agents with loss leaders or rock
bottom prices to get bums on the beds. It's almost as though they've given up this season. Antalya is reporting the worst
tourist season ever.

Part of Antalya's proble, is a heavy reliance on Russian visitors &, since the shooting down of the Russian airforce jet, all diect flights were suspended.

I have tried all the usual Airlines that leave from Glasgow or Edinburgh. Cheapest is £558.00 for the two of us. This is without factoring in Petrol and costs for a long stay car park. So possiblly around £850.00 just to fly to Turkey. No wonder Phil now wants to sell up..
Where are all the cheap flights to Turkey?? >:(

I haven't tried this lately, but I wanted to book a retutn flight only, it wouldnt let me. So I went through the process of booking both ways, then cancelled the departing flight and it accepted the return. Flight booked. Worth a try if you find 2 really cheap flights.

Book a package and then, on arrival, tell the rep that you won't be using the accommodation. Quite a few people do it.

No with them cheap companies, like icelolly, sunshine,travel republic,on the beach...don't forget you are only using the flight part to dalaman. :D

There is always the Glasgow - Antalya option 1st to 26th Sept Jet 2 £313.60 for two pax (not including baggage and additional travel costs)

Not from where I live. I have looked at the package option but nothing cheaper than around £1,000. I have tried a lot of websites too.
Packages may be cheaper from London but not from Scotland.

I have spent the last couple of weeks pondering a winter visit.
We normally visit in May/June but this year coming over late Aug/ Sept/ Oct
(We have never been to Turkey Jan / Feb time)
Flights from London to Antalya (Sue is not keen on flying into Istanbul) and staying at our place in Uzumlu for a month or so.
Shocked at the costs involved, best I can do taking into account transfers etc in excess of GBP800 for the two of us.
Our normal Winter break is Portugal's Algarve:
The same dates self catering accomodation (WI FI included) flights, transfers etc.. about GBP600
Flying from our local airport Southend and only a short transfer from Faro.
Unless we can get a better deal I think we may be off to Portugal again lol

No, they will not book one way, asked that already. We are going to hang on until later and see if we can get a flight.

Sorry John, They will not, try going onto they website and booking one way fare. Not allowed. I have spoken to their Head Office and they tell me, no one way flights. We thought we could do that and then when over there book a return. The Thomsons shop Peterhead have also confirmed, no one way flights from Aberdeen.

I have now come to the conclusion that it is the tour operator's that are boycotting Turkey, they're not even trying to sell their packages/flights. You would think that they would be trying to sell the holidays not putting prices up.
Like JH I have been searching all over the websites, found one last night Thomson 2 weeks AI in Belcekis Olu Deniz, £ 1,728 pp LOL !!!! and flight only over £ 600 mind you the flight has reduced from £ 889 pp.
I also receive all sorts of emails like Keith from Jet 2, Turkey holidays from £ 199 ? haven't found them, Monarch flights to Dalaman £ 49 ?and Thomas Crook with their usual crap.It's these companies that's killing tourism in Turkey.
Icelolly.com are cheaper but their flights are via Istanbul .

I spotted that Bluewise next to nothing going out £ 400 coming back, I'm looking for other people ,looked at packages as well but they are horrendous. looking at August returning beginning September, couldn't be a worse time.
Does anyone remember when holidays couldn't be sold and you got £ 99 allocation on arrival, a couple we spoke to a couple of years ago got 2 weeks half board Belcekis Beach including flight, Happy Days

Yes, that is very good, 13th October, two weeks until the end of the the end of the season, so only a two week Holliday.
We could book a return for two weeks. We want to go in September for a month and come back in October. I have been told by Thomson's that we cannot book single flights for our dates ( and we have been flexible) in September.

Steel bird is the handling agent for Monarch. They are not manned by English. Turkish personnel but some do speak English. They might sell seats from Dalaman to UK for Monarch but will not sell other operators seats. Thomson and Thomas Cook stopped selling seats at the airport a couple of years ago. As far as I know, it is not possible to buy Easy jet seats at Dalaman, don't know about Jet2. Thomson do sell from their offices here in Turkey and also sell seats from the UK to Dalaman, also returns, but I don't know if they offer all airports for all dates and durations. Better to ring them and ask for specific dates etc. Some of the agencies in Fethiye also sell flights seats, such as Lama tours and the agency opposite Migros in town.

Just received an email from Thomson office here about return flight availability from UK. Only goes up to end of August but if anyone is looking for other dates, other airports, maybe worth emailing.

Try Pegasus. One way from Manchester to Dalaman, October 3rd £59. I flew home to uk Two weeks ago with them for £34. They always have one way flights going to and from the uk. Offices in Fethiye and run by Turkish airlines.

Thanks for info stop, much appreciated. Don't want to p on your parade, I got one way easy jet for £30, that has now gone down to £25. It's the cheap returns I'm looking for now for 10th ish dal to man and a couple returns 12th for 10 days ish. Manchester to Dalaman. :D sorry for confusion. ;D

Got one part sorted Highlander, the 2 returns manchester to Dalaman on 13th. Just need 2 one way Dalaman to Manchester around the 10th for my daughter and her friend who fly out with us on 3rd. :)
