I've given this one a miss because of the owner's mistreatment of the donkeys.

Heard he no longer had donkeys but some other animals that he also was not looking after properly.

I wish people would give this family a break, yes they do have donkeys, I've no idea how you keep them but when the weather is bad they are in a stable, when it's sunny I've seen them out in the field. The other animals he has are ducks and chickens which all seem happy enough roaming free around the place.

In fairness George we can only go on the information people share, and giving the family a break may be a good idea except for the information posted to CBF, of which this appears to be the most recent - and isn't nice reading?

To be fair the information on that thread is getting on for a year old, the last post asking for "any news?". So does anyone have any new news on the place?

I'm pretty sure that following the posting referred to by Keith, they agreed with Animal Aid to donate their donkeys to the lady in Nif who looks after them in 5 star conditions, I also remember that Andy had meetings with them pointing out where they needed to improve their conditions if they kept donkeys in the future.

I think very few of us are skilled in keeping farm animals and even less of us get the opportunity from a farmer to walk around and inspect his farm like you do at Kargi, yet we seem happy to pass off third hand information saying that things like "I believe he keeps other animals that he is not looking after properly"

As I said, Give them a break !

Yes, I would like to hear any news too.  I remember the donkey's being taken away and the owner admitted he did not know how to keep donkeys, yet the next year he went and bought more donkeys... i cannot understand why unless it was to bring in tourists.
Donkey's live a very long time up to 30 years if looked after well and they do need specialist care and attention.
My daughter in law was telling me that she was so tempted to buy a donkey last week at a horse auction as they where making £10 each and some did not sell at all.  Such a shame that people buy them and then get tired of them and put them away to auctions.
So, hopefully the owner now knows how to look after the donkeys and they are being cared for as they should be.

Tis true we took the donkeys away George on the proviso he didn't replace them, unfortunately that's exactly what happened and they were kept in very bad condition, he had plans to sell donkey milk at rediculous prices because of it's magical cures.
We haven't got a clue what it's like up there now as we hadn't been back for over a year.

It should not cost you much, ask before you get in the Taxi and agree a price, it is only approx 4 miles from Calis if that, and if you ask the driver for a return price may get a better deal, or taxi there and slow stroll back through to Ciftlik village and jump on a Dolmus.
If I was gettting a Taxi and making an agreed fare prior to setting out then I would probably £10 or equiv in TL, fuel is much more expensive in Turkey.

If you are on a budget you could catch the dolmus to Ciflik and get the taxi from there?

My original post asked if anyone had an idea of the price of a cab to go for breakfast, I didn't ask about the condition of donkeys almost two years ago, so has anyone got an idea of the price of a cab from Calis. Thanks in advance of a useful answer.
